Immigration Minister Visits Pakistan

ISLAMABAD, PAKISTAN–(Jan. 10, 2009) – Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister Jason Kenney held meetings with the Pakistani Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani and other government officials during a two-day visit to Pakistan.  “Pakistani Canadians play an important role in Canada. We are seeing more and more newcomers arriving from Pakistan,” says Kenney. 

Jason Kenny Immigration MinisterThe purpose of his visit to Pakistan is to explore the possibility of development of more close and cordial relations between both the countries for taking skilled and semi-skilled labour, for the development of agriculture, construction and industrial sectors in some provinces of Canada and discussed with the labour minister to find avenues for employment of different categories of workforce from Pakistan.

“Pakistani-Canadians play an important role in Canada. We are seeing more and more newcomers arriving from Pakistan,” said Minister Kenney. “This visit gave me valuable insight as we continue to make improvements in our immigration system. My trip was made more meaningful due to my many consultations with members of the Pakistani-Canadian community.”

The Minister is visiting India on the final leg in his 12-day trip to the region.
