Denied Entry to Canada Famous People Series: Pastor Terry Jones

We are covering different celebrities who have been denied entry to Canada in recent months and years. Next on our list is US Pastor Terry Jones, who was denied entry to Canada just this past October, 2012.

US Pastor Terry Jones Denied Entry to Canada

In October, US Pastor Terry Jones had planned on speaking at an event called Freedom Showdown in Toronto. Jones is famous for being anti-Islamic and threatening to hold a Quran burning in Florida, which resulted in riots that caused the death of multiple people.

Both his critics and supporters were disappointed in his denial of entry, because both sides wanted to hear and discuss his point of view. Pastor Jones was denied entry to Canada at the Windsor border, after being held for four hours and quizzed on his intentions for visiting Canada and what he was planning to preach.

But Jones was not denied entry to Canada – officially – for what he planned to say while in Canada.

Criminal record caused Terry Jones to be denied entry to Canada

Terry Jones was denied entry to Canada because he was fined in Germany in 1993 for using the title “doctor” when he only had an honorary doctorate, and a breaching the peace charge – both overturned on appeal. While it really seems like scraping the bottom of the barrel, even the smallest seeming criminal record can cause you to be denied entry to Canada.

However, there are ways one can overcome this inadmissibility, such as applying for a temporary resident permit or applying for criminal rehabilitation. If you have been or fear you could be denied entry to Canada, contact us as soon as possible.
